As I was reading the book, I noticed lots of things. For one, the family of the main character also uses the n-word referring to themselves, and I thought it was only a term that white people used to discriminate against black people.
Second, I noticed that this book may have been written in a time when segregation was still a thing and I noticed this because when the school bus passed them on the side of the road, all of the kids on the bus started laughing at them. Third, I think that, from reading the back of the book, there will be some burnings done by the KKK.
When I was reading yesterday, I noticed that the bus driver may have been plotting to burn the main characters house down. He may have wanted to do this because the kids ruined his bus.
(4/24/19) When I was reading, was surprised by the fact that Cassie's mom wouldn't let her go and help their dads friend (I don't remember his name) and she said that if he needed help he would go to them.
(5/10/19)While I was reading, I noticed how protective Uncle Hammer and Mr. Morrison were over Cassie's family, and I don't hate Mr. Morrison now. I don't like any of the Simms, but all of the other characters I like a lot.
